State elections in Lower Austria – tenor: “Choose Mikl-Leitner or stay at home”

Date:

Politics should work for the people and not “get each other dirty,” says Christoph Haselmayer, a political insider and pollster at the Institute for Public Opinion and Data Analysis (IFDD). If the ÖVP’s corruption investigation committee has brought one thing, it is “that we have seen how politics does not work”. In the LIVE conversation with moderator Conny Winiwarter, Haselmayer talks about the “popular Johanna Mikl-Leitner” and the “overrated ÖVP Lower Austria”.

The fact that ÖVP state director Bernhard Ebner and state governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner were invited to the U committee “is, of course, for electoral tactical reasons”. But: “The other parties are doing it so clumsily, so stupidly that people see through it.” They are just partial calculations. Faith in the U-committee is weak: only 25 percent think it will bring anything. The majority of optimists are green voters, according to the latest IFDD results. Haselmayer: “The population has long since left.” People want politicians to work for the people, instead of “throwing dirt at each other” in the subcommittee.

Nationally overrated: “ÖVP Lower Austria not a brain of the federal government”
He does not think that the “system of Lower Austria” would determine the decisions in the federal government: because if the ÖVP Niederösterreich were the “brain of the federal ÖVP”, the national polls would be a lot better “and not clearly on third place”. place behind SPÖ and FPÖ”. Not only campaigning, but also tackling content and strategy, “the ÖVP Niederösterreich can do that”, the insider analyses. Nevertheless: “The ÖVP Lower Austria is not the brains of the federal government.”

If there were elections in Lower Austria on Sunday, 41 percent would vote for the ÖVP: a fall of more than eight percent, according to a poll for the “NÖN”. But you’ve been measuring for a year and a half. The conclusion: there is a break in the trend towards rising percentages. The SPÖ comes to 24 percent: “Like in Tyrol: you don’t get anywhere,” says Haselmayer. With 17 percent, the FPÖ would achieve “the best historical result”. The MFG no longer plays a role at all.

Lower Austrian tenor: “Choose Mikl-Leitner or stay at home”
In a direct election, Johanna Mikl-Leitner gets 50 percent approval. “It’s popular,” the pollster summarizes. “Hanni” scores particularly well with the 60+ voter group. The advantage of the older supporters: “It is the voters who most certainly go to the polls.” Haselmayer goes even further: “In Lower Austria it means: choose Johanna Mikl-Leitner or stay at home.” Udo Landbauer ( FPÖ ) would also score in direct elections: he would receive two percentage points more than his party.

The main problem for voters: inflation
Above all, people are concerned about inflation. The next increase at the gas stations will follow in January with the Co2 price, “with the state putting money back into its own pocket”. The war in Ukraine and a possible import ban for oil and natural gas, on the other hand, affect people significantly less, according to the research by Puls24.
