Agreement reached – scrapped from table: railway workers get 8% more

Date:

It was a tough battle to reach agreement on the railway collective agreement: long rounds of negotiations, then even a strike – now apparently a common consensus could be found. Railway employees will receive 8 percent more wages or salaries in the future; but at least 480 euros for two years.

The representatives of the vida trade union and the employees agreed on a new collective labor agreement for the railway workers on Tuesday. The salary increase provides for an increase of at least 210 euros as of 1 December.

Minimum amount increases in two steps
This minimum amount will be increased in two steps to 250 or 290 euros next year. On 1 February 2024, another EUR 190 will be added, so that salaries will increase by at least EUR 480 at the beginning of 2024 (EUR 290 as the final adjustment phase of 2023 and EUR 190 for 2024). In addition, however, there is the inflation compensation for the coming year.

For the lower salary levels, this minimal adjustment means an increase of 11 to 12 percent, emphasize employer representative Thomas Scheiber and employee representative Gerhard Tauchner. On average, the wage agreement means a salary increase of 8.08 percent.
