After eight years as mayor of Vitoria-Gasteiz, Urtaran thinks the time is right to pass the baton to someone else. He has not revealed his political future and has focused on the end of his term: budgets, district management, energy and Green Capital.
The mandate of the mayor of Vitoria-Gasteiz, Gorka Urtaran, is entering its final stretch. The Jeltzale politician will not participate in next year’s municipal elections and it has been “a shared and peaceful decision”, as he stated in the Euskadi Irratia program “Faktoria”.
Urtaran has worked on the city council for 22 years, the last eight in the mayor’s office, and believes that “it is time to turn the witness over to another person.” The mayor of Vitoria-Gasteiz does not notice that the climate has changed towards him in the city and has assured that there is “no attrition” behind this decision.
On the other hand, he refers to the administration of the city without making new predictions about its political future. The municipal budget of 480 million euros, the funds from Europe for investments, the renovation of the Zaramaga district, the tenth anniversary of the Green Capital or the future challenges of public services are some of the topics covered.
