The Executive had convened this committee for next Monday, but they have decided to bring the meeting forward in light of events.
The address of citizens has “urgently” convened its National Committee for today and does not rule out not running in the general elections in July, said the secretary-general of the Orange formation, Adrian Vasquez.
As explained by Vázquez, the National Committee is “the only body that has the power” to decide on overlapping elections. The Executive had convened this committee for next Monday, but they have decided to bring the meeting forward in light of events.
Sunday’s regional and municipal elections were another serious setback for Ciudadanos, which has failed to be represented in any of the contending autonomy and has also been left out of the Madrid City Council, where Begoña Villacís held the office of vice-mayor . The national spokesman, Patricia Guasp, has also failed to rehabilitate her seat in the Balearic Islands, an autonomy where she fought for the presidency of the government.
If Ciudadanos decides to run in the elections, they must name a candidate, which they currently do not have. The statutes stipulate that the candidate for the presidency of the government of Spain must be chosen by primaries, but at the moment it is not known whether they can name anyone without going through the process, because the elections are called in advance.
