Two injured – climbing group in Tyrol hit by stone chips

Serious climbing accident on Whit Monday in Tyrol! A group of four people from Germany was hit by a stone chip during a trip in the Kaisergebirge. Two men were injured.

Early Monday morning, three men aged 29, 30 and 31 and a 24-year-old woman went on a climbing trip on the south face of the Ackerlspitze in the municipality of Going am Wilden Kaiser. “While securing activities on the third cable length, the climbers were suddenly hit by a falling rock, which probably broke loose in the very steep gully above, which was still partially covered with old snow,” police said.

The 29-year-old suffered a broken femur and was rescued by the crew of the C4 rescue helicopter and taken to hospital in St. Johann. The 30-year-old man sustained several bruises all over his body and face. The 31 and 24-year-old were unharmed. “Because the climbing rope was also damaged, the athletes were rescued by the crew of the police helicopter with the help of a rope,” said the management.
