The judge cannot seize Luis Medina’s accounts because he only has 250 euros

The judge investigating the lawsuit against businessmen Luis Medina and Alberto Luceño has asked the parties to propose other precautions of an economic nature.

The judge investigating the complaint against businessmen Luis Medina and Alberto Luceño for possible crimes in the sale of masks to the Madrid City Council during a pandemic has been unable to proceed with the seizure of Luis Medina’s bank accounts, since he only counted 247 euros.

For this reason, the Chief Magistrate of the Investigating Judge of Madrid 47, Adolfo Carretero, has asked the parties to propose the adoption of “new precautions of an economic nature to ensure civil responsibilities”.

The investigating judge last week agreed to seize the assets of Luis Medina and Alberto Luceño. In the case of the former, son of the Duke of Feria and Naty Abascal, the measure concerned a yacht for which he paid €325,515 and two bank bonds worth €400,000.

However, in an injunction accessed by the Efe agency this Wednesday, the judge said Medina “no longer possesses the bonds referred to by the Public Prosecution Service”. As stated in the anti-corruption prosecutor’s complaint, he bought investment bonds with part of the million euros he received in commissions for participating in a mask-buying operation.
