Black-green discrepancies over the delivery of files from the Ministry of Finance to the Causa Vorarlberger Wirtschaftsbund to the ÖVP-U Commission: The Greens want the tax files and have therefore submitted a new request to ÖVP Finance Minister Magnus Brunner, but were only shown the cold shoulder of the ministry.
The Ministry of Finance apparently insists on not supplying the files because of the ongoing process. This is based on a legal opinion from the Finanzprokuratur. Because the files relate to a process in pending proceedings that has not yet been completed, they could not yet be viewed by Parliament. The documents delivered in April would have affected “old tax records” of the Economic Association in this case, it said in the “Vorarlberger Nachrichten” on Thursday.
Tomaselli locates “threaded” reasoning
Green Party leader Nina Tomaselli cannot understand the Treasury Department’s reasoning and calls it “thin”. The fact that some of the files relate to criminal investigations is no reason not to deliver across the board. In addition, the new application is identical to the one from the spring, when the files were delivered, explains Tomaselli. The fact that since then there has been a need for new files and documents in connection with the application text is solely due to the fact that a final meeting between the Tax Authorities and the Economic Association took place in mid-October.
Criticism and Finance Minister Brunner
That’s why Tomaselli criticizes Brunner. Because the Minister of Finance cannot declare on the one hand that he wants transparency and on the other that he does not want to provide the University Committee with files relating to his own association of entrepreneurs. “That doesn’t go together.” Tomaselli now wants to await the official response from the Treasury Department to the U-committee and examine the reasoning therein. Then it will be decided whether we go to the Constitutional Court.
Investigations also against Governor Wallner
The starting point of the cause, which triggered a political earthquake in the country, was a tax audit at the Wirtschaftsbund. In the room hang the charges of possible corruption related to advertisements in a newspaper of the sub-organization ÖVP, the suspicion of collusive party financing and the incorrect payment of taxes, therefore financial criminal proceedings are pending at the prosecutor’s office of Feldkirch office. The prosecutor’s office for business and corruption is investigating several suspects, including black governor Markus Wallner.
