Ukraine’s President Volodimir Zelensky asked the NATO Parliamentary Assembly on Monday that Russia is recognized as a terrorist state after the attacks on the Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
Russia “is destroying our energy infrastructure to end the supply of electricity and water, and with winter heating,” Zelensky said during his telematic intervention in the last session of the 68 NATO Parliamentary Assemblywho debated the war in Ukraine this weekend in Madrid.
During his speech, the Ukrainian president accused Russia of “directly endangering the lives of millions of people”. “It would be correct for you to recognize Russia as a terrorist state in your parliaments,” he asked.
The last two days there have been bombardments with impacts very close to the nuclear power plant of Zaporizhia, the largest in Europe. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has expressed concern at these attacks and others taking place at other smaller plants.
On the other hand, Zelensky underlined how “unfair and unnatural” the “separation of Ukraine from Europe” has beenand has assured that it will not allow that separation to be maintained.
Finally, you asked that sanctions against Russia will be further “tightened” and has demanded a “new and ninth” package of measures from the EU. In this sense, he has asked to provide Ukraine with “the anti-aircraft and missile defense systems in sufficient quantity and quality.
