Should we freeze this winter? No, says Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP). He spoke to the “Krone” about energy supply, “message control” and the asylum crisis.
After his return from Croatia, Chancellor Karl Nehammer spoke to the “Krone” about various current topics. Including on the issue of energy supply in the country.
“Memory 95 percent full”
“This winter is assured. This is the most important message for the people. The gas storage tanks are 95 percent full. Now it is all about security of supply for the coming years, which we are currently working intensively on to make Austria independent (editor’s note: Russian gas imports fell from 80 to only 21 percent)’, the ÖVP boss assures.
“Enormous security risk in Europe”
When it comes to the asylum crisis, the head of government sees that “it is the EU’s turn to finally close the external borders”. Nehammer continues: “We face a huge security risk across Europe when irregular migrants march unchecked through European countries. This has to come to an end now, we have to stop asylum tourism.”
Fleischmann “a good communicator”
And when asked about the return of “Mr. Message Control” Gerald Fleischmann to the federal party, the Chancellor remains undaunted: “He is a good communicator who returns to the ÖVP at the right time.”
