The district capital is worried about jobs because of the planned logistics center – and is now increasing the pressure on St. Valentin, 30 kilometers away, with a resolution:
Opposition to Amazon’s planned logistics center in St. Valentin in the Amstetten district is growing. After, reportedly, Bishop Alois Schwarz and ÖVP regional deputy Stephan Pernkopf recently spoke out against the construction and citizens started a petition, it is now the district capital, 30 kilometers away, that opposes the plans of the internet giant. In Amstetten, there are serious concerns that such a center will have serious consequences for their own jobs and regional trade.
“take distance”
That is why the city council, with the votes of the ÖVP, the Greens and the FPÖ, passed a resolution asking political colleagues in St. Valentin to distance themselves from the mega project. “We all have to think outside the box of our own community to strengthen the region together”, Mayor Christian Haberhauer (ÖVP) is convinced. “A lot of built-up area for little added value on the ground should give SPÖ mayor Kerstin Suchan-Mayr food for thought,” adds Christian Schrammel of the FPÖ.
Surprise…
The Social Democrats in both Amstetten and St. Valentin, on the other hand, are surprised at this “interference in other Community affairs”. For them, the resolution owes more to the state’s election campaign.
