Investigators in Rome have arrested a couple on suspicion of enslaving their own daughter. The suspect (41) was detained and his 36-year-old wife was placed under house arrest.
The 14-year-old was physically and verbally abused, starved to death and made to beg in front of a supermarket, Italian police said in Rome on Sunday. Moreover, against her will, she was promised to a stranger for money in marriage.

According to the authorities, the minor had reported herself in October. She spontaneously appeared at a police station and tearfully reported the actions of the Bosnian couple, which she had witnessed for years. After her report, she was immediately placed in a protected institution.
