Do not integrate – “Violence against women is a migration problem”

Date:

Every third woman is a victim of psychological, physical and/or sexual violence. “That touches me,” says Karl Mahrer, chairman of the state party of the ÖVP Vienna, in the krone.tv conversation with moderator Conny Winiwarter. And further: “This is a problem that has to do with migration.” One reason for the increasing violence against women is the lack of integration. If Mahrer and his ÖVP have their way, stable EU external border controls and asylum procedures outside Europe will be needed. And all those who are already there should contribute and do charitable activities. “Mandatory,” says Mahrer. It sees itself as the “engine of remembrance in Europe”.

People who just want to “improve their living conditions” are not wanted here in Austria. The ÖVP follows its strict line here: “We should not keep our ‘House of Europe’ open.” The European asylum system has failed. Mahrer describes the ÖVP as the “motor of reconsideration in Europe”. People see it differently. Only ten percent still trust the Chancellor when it comes to asylum policy. Mahrer is not impressed. You don’t trust polls, but “the voters on Election Day.”

Mahrer about SPÖ: “Completely failed for decades”
When it comes to the Viennese city council, the ÖVP politician does not spare criticism. The “failure of the NEOS” and the “detachment of the SPÖ” hurt the Viennese, in some parts of the city “one does not hear a word of German anymore”. Blame the SPÖ under city boss Michael Ludwig: “The SPÖ is far from the people. It has failed completely in recent decades.” In addition, it is “completely unbelievable” when it comes to asylum policy. FPÖ boss Herbert Kickl is also taken aback: “The only change he made to the asylum policy was to exchange the ‘reception center’ sign in Traiskirchen for a ‘departure center’ sign.”

“Asylum seekers must do community service”
However, Mahrer really likes the latest idea of the SPÖ Oberösterreich. A compulsory integration service should make asylum seekers responsible. They should do charity work and get paid for it. “A contribution from the asylum seekers would be appropriate,” says Mahrer. He is skeptical about easier access to the labor market – it could raise false expectations. “We must not give asylum seekers hope that they will be allowed to stay by giving them access to the labor market,” he clarifies.

U-Committee Wien Energie should do it “without insults”.
The committee of inquiry into the Wien Energie case will start on Friday. There would have been “catastrophic failures” in communication and risk management. Mahrer sees political responsibility flouted. With a swipe at the federal government, he emphasizes: “Unlike in the federal government, the ÖVP does not want to offend anyone personally.” It’s about the issue, and especially how Mayor Michael Ludwig can declare that he “single-handed 1.4 billion, though the city’s senate committees were reachable.”

“Dick-Pic Paragraph”: “Smart, correct and necessary”
Current figures on violence against women worry the ÖVP politician. It is an issue closely related to migration. The increasing violence against women is due to the lack of integration in recent times. He assesses the idea of a “Dick-Pic paragraph” by State Secretary for Youth Affairs Claudia Plakolm (ÖVP) as “sensible, correct and necessary”. But it is only part of the many measures that need to be taken against violence against women.

You can see the entire interview with Karl Mahrer in the video above. KroneLIVE can be seen from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m.
