“I polarize” – Doskozil criticizes “hatefulness” after a survey

Date:

Burgenland Governor Hans Peter Doskozil (SPÖ) defended the inquiry commissioned by his state party, which questioned his potential as the SPÖ’s top candidate in national elections, stressing that he was surprised by the “hatred” within the SPÖ meeting him now. The fact that he would actually run for chancellor was “utopian because I clearly polarize too much in the party,” Doskozil said.

In the survey, which saw the SPÖ at 32 percent under Doskozil and at 27 percent under Pamela Rendi-Wagner, he was not concerned with a leadership debate, but with questioning the theme landscape and the mood. “The investigation is an essential factor in waking up and seeing the potential of where the party could stand,” the governor stressed. With the current actions of the government and the FPÖ as an opposition, more could be possible for the SPÖ, Doskozil said: “The social democracy must claim to be above 30 percent.”

Doskozil: It’s not about party leadership, it’s about problems
It is less about the top candidate than about “answers to the questions of the times”, according to Doskozil, who emphasized the minimum wage of 1,700 euros net, inflation, the energy transition and the migration crisis as core issues for Burgenland and the federal government. He also spoke out in favor of internal SPÖ talks with state party leaders on these issues to show “unity”. However, to date these have not taken place.
