North Korea honored a large tourist area on the east coast in the presence of ruler Kim Jong-un (see video above). The dictator welcomed it as “wave of happiness”. The new center should be able to house around 20,000 visitors.
A ski area already has the area around Wonsan, now there are bed castles and nice baths. “Kim Jong-un has expressed the conviction that the wave of happiness that will be created in the tourist field on the coast of Wonsan Kalma, whose attractiveness will increase as the tourist location of a world rank,” wrote the Kcna news agency on Thursday.
Kim participated in the ceremony with “great satisfaction”. Other large zones must be built.

Kim had converted the coastal city of Wonsan, a popular holiday destination for the local population, into a tourist center of a billion reasons. The 2014 development plans were announced for the first time. Given the international sanctions because of its weapons programs, the largely insulated state has not found a large foreign partner for the Wonsan project.
Open to domestic guests from July 1
The agency reported that the tourist zone will be opened for domestic guests from 1 July. There was no question of possible foreign holidaymakers. Noord -Korea had closed its borders in 2020 at the start of Corona Pandemic, but has gradually lifted many restrictions since 2023.
The sealed country recently allowed Russian tourist groups to come in. The Russian ambassador participated as a guest for the opening ceremony in Wonsan. The capital Pyongyang and other parts of the country remain closed for regular tourism, even if a marathon run with foreign runners was performed in April.
