Arantxa Tapia, Minister of Economic Development, Sustainability and Environment, Radio Euskadi, December 7

Date:

Despite the exclusion of a slowdown scenario, the Minister of Economic Development, Sustainability and the Environment is concerned about the “slowdown of the Basque economy”.

Euskaraz irakurri: Tapia: “Hilabete hotzenak ditugu aurretik, eta egoera konplexua izango da denontzat”

The economy does not present any risks of slowdown at the moment, but the symptoms of slowdown are more than clear, said the Basque Minister of Economic Development, Sustainability and the Environment. Arantxa Tapia. He has assured that at this “complex moment” the work of the department he heads is aimed at activating tools to deal in particular with the slowdown “of investment from Europe”. After pointing out that the increase in energy prices was not “as high as expected”, he emphasized that “we are still at the beginning of December and the coldest months are yet to come”. “Companies, citizens and administrations will still have to deal with a very complex situation,” he added.

Interviewed on Radio Euskadi, she also referred to the future Spanish space agency that will eventually have its headquarters in Seville. Tapia, which announced on November 2 that the Basque Country was aiming to house the institution’s headquarters in one of its three technology parks, has stated that the decision “has not troubled the Basque government”, although it has acknowledged that they disagree with “forming the process”. The adviser believes that “Seville’s candidacy was predetermined from the start” and that they have opened the process to “justify that appointment”. Despite his disagreement, Gasteiz’s director will not appeal the process.

Similarly, the Minister of Economic Development and Infrastructure has made a clear commitment to the Basque Country to start generating more wind energy itself in order to be more competitive from an economic and environmental point of view. That, he said, means opening the doors to the installation of new wind farms on Basque soil. In this sense, he has indicated that it is urgent to make investments to “accelerate the energy transition”. “We need these projects to generate energy as quickly as possible. If we want to speed up the transition, we need to speed up those permits. We need to be part of that energy that we consume, including Esukadi.” he added. He has put forward that he expects to start working on some of the projects they hold by late 2023 and early 2024.

Regarding the crisis unleashed in Donostialdea’s OSI, Tapia has insisted that the solution to the conflict must be sought “outside the media”. “You have to talk, analyze the situation that led to this somewhat extreme approach and try to turn it around. Away from the media and in a relaxed and calm way,” the minister insisted, as the spokesman for the Basque government did yesterday . Bingen Zupiria.
