The Basque Parliament approves the reform of the anti-doping law to align it with the World Anti-Doping Code

The second amendment to the law against doping in sport strengthens controls and tightens sanctions.

The Basque Parliament passed today a second amendment to it Law against doping in sport which adapts the Basque regulations to the new World Anti-Doping Code.

Among other things newsstipulates that athletes, the personnel of their environment and the government may not rely on people who have been penalized, disciplinary or administratively punished for doping during the period of compliance for the development of sports activities.

Furthermore, it is considered one very serious crime making any kind of threat or harassment with the intent or purpose to discourage the disclosure of information related to an alleged anti-doping rule violation or non-compliance.

In this case, and based on the severity and circumstances of what happened, obtaining a federation license will be suspended, denied or made impossible for a period of two years until suspended forever.

The normative text contains a classification of athletesaccording to their level of sport, and includes different responsibilities for each athlete if violations of this rule are confirmed.

The reform of the legislation has received the full support of the PNV, EH Bildu, PSE-EE and Elkarrekin Podemos-IU, and the partial support of PP+Cs and Grupo Mixto-Vox.
