Twitter has permanently blocked the account of Viennese FPÖ country chief Dominik Nepp. He violated the rules against hateful conduct. The waves on the internet are already rising.
“We have blocked @DominikNepp’s account for violating our policy against hateful conduct. This rule violation was identified through several reports filed regarding his conduct,” Twitter said in a statement.
Also: “The person is not allowed to create new accounts.”
Controversial tweet
Nepp recently caused a stir with a controversial tweet. “Vienna’s tax money ends up in the garbage. Thank you Mayor Michael Ludwig,” he said, posting a photo showing several PCR test packs from “Alles gurgelt” in a trash can. The post has now been deleted and Nepp’s account has been blocked,
According to “Today,” the reason for the ban was clearly another tweet from Nepp dated Dec. 15. In it he spread the information that Lower Austrians would no longer be treated in Viennese hospitals. Instead, they are full of countless illegal “stabbing press” from Syria and Afghanistan. The police have also been involved in this case (see tweet below).
Nepp’s ban is hotly debated on Twitter. “Seriously speaking, it is questionable in terms of democratic politics to block a politician’s account,” criticizes political adviser Heimo Lepuschitz, who is close to the FPÖ.
His criticism focuses mainly on the new Twitter owner Elon Musk. “The freedom of expression he promised did not appear to have reached Twitter Austria,” Lepuschitz added in his tweet.
But there are also users who show understanding for the lock. “Anyone who incites hate should not be surprised. Incitement to hatred has nothing to do with freedom of expression either,” writes the Thinkforyourself account.
