“Can it” – Nehammer and Kogler call for trust

People could have confidence when they see what has been achieved in recent months and years, Nehammer explained in the 50th ORF program “Licht ins Dunkel”. He recalled that when the war broke out in Ukraine, there was a lot of fear of mass unemployment or a lack of gas. That did not happen, because people can deal with crises. That is why it is his wish that people regain confidence.

“It is and remains difficult”
The chancellor admitted: “It is difficult and it will continue to be difficult.” But, “We can do it,” Nehammer said confidently that people will come out of this crisis stronger than they went in. These are not empty promises, but are based on facts when you look at what you have achieved.

Kogler also referred to what has been achieved so far. In view of the times of war and crisis, the Vice-Chancellor called for reflection on what had nevertheless been achieved. Given the “beastly war of aggression” waged by Russia, “we can’t be neutral,” Kogler said. He pointed out that the Austrian people were at the forefront of aid and had taken in tens of thousands of women and children from the Ukraine.

Nehammer described the help of “Licht ins Dunkel” as very important because the state cannot do everything. Although Austria has a well-developed social system, there are always gaps. Kogler also believed that even the best welfare state could never cover all situations in life.

Kickl: “Let’s believe in the good”
FPÖ chairman Herbert Kickl also encouraged people despite the crises. “Let’s believe in the good and true and have faith in our own strength,” Kickl said in his Christmas video message. He promoted the shared enthusiasm and indomitable will for freedom, for self-determination. This will “weld us together – whether for us as individuals or for our country as a whole. And nothing or no one can successfully resist this force.”
