“Wasted Airtime” – Kickl dissects Van der Bellen’s New Year’s speech

Date:

“The minutes were wasted airtime on ORF.” With these sharp words, FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl responded to the New Year’s speech by Federal President Alexander van der Bellen on Sunday. “The integrity of politics cannot be restored with this federal government. The Federal President should know that – nevertheless he tries to make people happy with superficial perseverance slogans to keep them happy,” said the blue frontman in a broadcast.

As long as the ÖVP has something to say in this country, “corruption will also be a constant companion,” Kickl believes.

In his New Year’s speech, Van der Bellen said that the “political water damage” to democracy that he identified in October 2022 has still not been repaired. “Van der Bellen will have to wait a long time for this general renovation that he has ordered, because the ÖVP makes no attempt to change its allegedly corrupt behavior, even in the slightest,” Kickl added.

Kickl calls for new elections
If the Federal President is serious about a general renewal, then he must pull the string, throw this government out and thus clear the way for new elections. “Then the Austrians will have the opportunity to redistribute trust and mistrust,” says Kickl. Apparently, however, it is enough for the Federal President to demand action without drawing any consequences if these actions are not taken.

FPÖ boss missed words from Van der Bellen about inflation
Kickl criticized that even when it came to the most pressing issue of inflation, the head of state gave no hope. “Believing and hoping that 2023 will be a good year does not pay for the electricity bill or the groceries. And as we’ve seen for almost a year now, Black-Green can’t protect people from inflation.”

Kickl demanded that the “knee shot sanctions” against Russia be lifted, which would hurt the EU and thus Austria more than Russia. “But here too there is no insight from the head of state. Actually, the minutes of the New Year’s speech were wasted airtime on ORF.”
