Hazi emphasizes that De Miguel does not hold a “position of trust” or manager

Date:

The public foundation has indicated that the former leader of the PNV from Alava, convicted of corruption crimes, returned to his position in 2010 and that he cannot take action until the verdict against him is final.

The Hazi Foundation, dependent on the Basque government, has indicated that the former leader of the PNV of Álava Michael AlfredoSentenced to 13 years in prison for various corruption offenses, he “does not hold any position of trust, or self-appointment, or political position, nor is he an officer” of this entity.

In addition, through a statement following the information of the past few days about the employment situation of this ex-Jeltzale prosecutor, he stated that De Miguel “does not hold any ‘manager’ position within the organization of the HAZI Foundation”, in the one that – according to what is stated- “does exercise as a steady force”.

This foundation has reported that Alfredo De Miguel, a worker at the Hazi Foundation, returned to his position in April 2010, after the leave he had to hold public office in the Provincial Council of Álava.

Hazi explained that De Miguel took on the tasks of, among other things, designing the annual management plan within his field of action and attracting projects and initiators.

The foundation ensures that it has acted “transparently” and that all this information “has been repeatedly sent both in writing and explained by Hazi’s director himself at performances in 2020 and 2021.”

In that information – as he has indicated – it is also expressed that “even if you know that Alfredo De Miguel is a person against whom there is a conviction for corruption, it is a verdict that is not yet final, since there is the right to duplicate the criminal case against convictions”.

Hazi says he understands that this circumstance is “not understood by society”, and acknowledges that the decisions made about this person “are not easy for the organization itself, although for the Foundation, which is linked to the Department of Economic Development, Sustainability and environment of the Basque Government, it agrees to act in accordance with legal and administrative criteria”.

Likewise, it finds it “difficult to understand” that, “after no news has come out about Alfredo de Miguel’s employment status for the last seven years, during these 24 hours incorrect information has been interpreted as newsworthy, since Alfredo de Miguel is not in possession of the position of manager”, while the rest of the information “is already public and has been in parliament for more than two years”.

In any case, he confirmed that “the existence of a final verdict, regardless of direction, will enable the Hazi Foundation and the department it depends on to make a decision according to the legal and administrative criteria” regarding The Miguel
