Euskaraz irakurri: Sare: “Manifestazioak euskal gizartearen gehiengo handi batek aurrera egiteko duen borondatea berretsi zuen”
The civil support network of ETA Sare prisoners has assured that from now on it will work with the political, trade union and social sphere “to pave the way for the return home” of the prisoners through application of ordinary penitentiary law. As he has highlighted, 64% of inmates in the gang meet the “fundamental requirement” of serving a specified time sentence to qualify for the third degree.
Spokespersons for Sare Joseba Arzarraga and Bego Atxa appeared in Bilbao on Sunday to speak out about the demonstration in which tens of thousands of people demanded more changes in prison policy yesterday after the dispersal ended.
Azkarraga has assured that this Saturday “it was verified in the streets” of the capital of Biscay “the will of an important part of Basque society to try to move forward on the path of coexistence”.
It also represented, in his view, “support for those who”, like Sare, “have been defending for almost eight years the end of the exceptional policy still applied to Basque prisoners”.
The spokesman for the citizen network stressed that Sare also defends “a equal treatment“for all victims of violence, “but above all respect and acknowledgment of the harm done to all of them, regardless of the group or individual who committed the crime.”
Joseba Azkarraga added that Sare will work “from now on” with the political, trade union and social circles to “put an end to this policy of exclusion and, above all, gradually way back home“.
