On the other hand, referring to the De Miguel case, the chairman of the EBB of the PNV has requested “agility” of the judicial sphere because “it is not normal that a process like this has been open for 14 years”. “It has its complexity, but it’s not ‘Watergate,’ either,” he said.

“The government of Spain is completely absorbed in its fight with the PP. It is focused on the elections in May and everything is determined by those parameters. Everything else remains in the background, but the PNV will continue to push and I have all confident that we will be able to have tangible results in terms of transfers before May”. This is how he reacted Andoni Ortuzar, chairman of the EBB of the PNVwhen asked on Radio Euskadi about the negotiations on the upcoming transfers included in the Gernika statute.

In this sense, the leader of Jelzale believes that the president of the government of Spain will try to “exhaust the legislature” because “he needs time to calm down the economic storm” and “reduce uncertainty”. “As we have seen in other countries, wear and tear always takes its toll on the governing party,” he added.

Regarding the renewal of the Constitutional Court, which will culminate this Monday with the arrival of four new magistrates, Ortuzar has warned that the PNV views all constitutional issues “with a distance”, since, although “it talks about progressives and conservatives, there has never been any understanding” with those who understand that the state model “needs to be radically changed and who have expectations that national realities such as the Basque Country or Catalonia fit differently and can determine their future”. He has emphasized that the PNV proposes a reform of the TC so that it can accommodate “a kind of arbitration committee” that studies the existing conflicts between the Basque Country and the central administration. “Let this committee clear up these issues, because when it goes to plenary, we already know what’s going to happen,” he said.

On the other hand, referring to the De Miguel case, the president of the EBB has asked the judicial sphere for “agility” because “it is not normal for a trial like this to be open for 14 years”. “Justice has to do its homework with all guarantees, but with agility. It is a case that has its complexity, but it is not ‘Watergate’ either,” he said.

Also with regard to Alfredo De Miguel’s employment situation, he has assured that “we have little room for maneuver until a final decision has been made”. “That person is in possession of labor rights.”

Finally, he also spoke about the situation that has arisen in Brazil after the attack on the institutions by the followers of former President Jair Bolsonaro. Ortuzar has condemned the attack and called on Democrats to “take care of democracy every day”. “I think this should make us more aware than ever that democracy, despite its imperfections, is the best political system, the fairest, and that it needs to be pampered and cared for every day,” he said.
