The FPÖ New Year’s meeting took place in Wiener Neustadt on Saturday. The theme of the meeting was the upcoming state elections in Lower Austria. Party leader Herbert Kickl hopes for a “huge success” here, but also for an FPÖ chancellor after the next federal elections.
At the start, FPÖ Secretary General Michael Schnedlitz welcomed the visitors to the Arena Nova event center. He is also the deputy mayor of Wiener Neustadt. Schnedlitz attacked the political competitors, especially the ÖVP: “This ÖVP has had nothing to do with Lower Austria for a long time.” The “mother tongue” of the People’s Party is about corruption, he said. “We climb as ÖVP voters, ministers and state governors swim away.” ÖVP boss and “ball gown Hanni” Johanna Mikl-Leitner will be next in line, he predicted.
Snipe on “Dilettante Government”
Landbauer then spoke. He made it clear that they would play for victory on January 29 in Lower Austria. Initially, he was happy that the “corona madness” and “general attack by a dilettante government” were now a thing of the past. “We freedom fighters have precisely smashed this corona regime,” he said with conviction.
“I’m starting to break the ÖVP system,” he said. The last black bastion will fall in Lower Austria, he predicted – though he also feared “dirty-bucket campaigns” from the People’s Party. They want to create a “fairer” Lower Austria. People are not against, but for something, for example for families or safety.
Asylum chaos, corruption and sky-high prices had to be fought, Landbauer believed. The “misplaced policy” is being cleaned up. As interior minister, Mikl-Leitner left the borders open “like barn doors”. 2023, on the other hand, should be the “year of the eviction”. Landbauer warned against arrogance in good polls. “We haven’t won yet.” But you can win. Now it’s time to shift into the next gear.
Kickl received with cheers and smoke machine
The party leader was greeted with cheers and blue mist from the smoke machine. “I’m really ashamed now,” Kickl rejoiced at the applause. He welcomed the delegates to the “Fortress Austria”. “I’m back,” the recently ill politician assured. The “last germ” had disappeared again.
Only the FPÖ is on the side of the people, not the “conglomerate” of all the other parties, he explained. He called Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen “Alexander the Weak”. Kickl noted a “roof damage” in politics and again called for new elections.
‘Then there will be a free Chancellor’
The government is too cowardly to resign. It is apparently a self-help group that is only concerned with its own survival until 2024. “But we will throw a spanner in the works for them, but a decent one.” It depends on each vote. After the next election, they will take command and “save what can be saved”. Part of this is offering an interim statement to the government for the upcoming elections. He hopes for a “great success” in Lower Austria. “Once that is done, dear friends, you have to be successful in the National Council elections. It needs a libertarian victory.”
It also doesn’t matter who comes into the ring against the FPÖ, he assured the supporters. It should not matter whether the SPÖ sends Pamela Rendi-Wagner or Hans-Peter Doskozil into the race. In any case, he counts on the support of the voters. “Then there will be a liberal chancellor,” he predicted. You could guess who that might be, he said, in view of the “Herbert, Herbert” calls in the hallway.
Kickl recommends: “Children instead of Indians”
With an FPÖ chancellor, Kickl said there would also have been a veto against sanctions against Russia – which is waging a war of aggression against Ukraine. He criticized these as an economic suicide bomb and responsible for high energy bills. He also spoke out against the supply of further weapons, as otherwise the conflict could “escalate”.
In asylum policy there is only one serious address, namely the FPÖ, he stated. He described the agreement with India as “disgrace”. Asylum seekers would immediately return as workers. Instead, Kickl advised, “Kids instead of Indians.” Kickl praised former party leader Jörg Haider as a role model and his “Austria first” referendum. What is needed is a “trend reversal” and a “Copernican twist” in the asylum system.
