Gerald Fleischmann is considered one of the founders of Turkish “message control”, or the organized placement of subjects in the media and the uniform appearance of the government. The 49-year-old, who took over the management of ÖVP communication in November last year, has now written his experiences in a book.

“Message management. Everything you always wanted to know about politics and the media,” is the name of Fleischmann’s book, which will be published on February 11. In it, the former spokesperson for former Chancellor Sebastian Kurz describes how politicians control information that is made public He also provides insight into the “secret tricks and strategies of famous politicians of recent years” and reveals how they work.

“What does Albert Einstein and Sigmund Freund have to do with it, what is the Nirvana tactic and what is the dead cat strategy? No one knows that better than Gerald Fleischmann,” says the publisher. All this is explained “anecdotically and entertainingly” in Fleischmann’s work and will “look at politics and the media with different eyes in the future.”

Fleischmann, who initially got a taste for journalism, started his VP career in 2003 in the communications department of the ÖVP Niederösterreich. In the coalition of ÖVP and FPÖ, he was from 2017 Deputy Chief of Cabinet of Chancellor Sebastian Kurz and head of the newly created Department for Strategic Communication Planning, from 2020 he was Chancellor for Media Policy.
