The Social Forum will say ‘goodbye’ in March, although the ‘settlement process has not yet been completed’

Date:

He will be “proud to have contributed our grain of sand to leave a better society for the new generations.” “Dismantle the whole policy of exceptions”, one of the ongoing challenges.

The Social Forum has announced it will end its “work phase” in March, though it has warned there are “consequences of the cycle of violence” that have not yet been resolved and that the “resolution process has not been completed”.

The Social Forum was held this Saturday in Durango a meeting in which he took stock of his years of work and in which Agus Hernán, Nekane Altzelai, Nazario de Oleaga, Expe Iriarte and Eneko Calle participated, among others.

In a statement read by his spokesman, Agus Hernán, the birth in 2013 was remembered “at the hands of Lokarri and Bake Bidea, in a context of multiple blockades to promote from civil society a way to solve”, which they have described as “consequences of the cycle of violence“.

“In June 2016, the Permanent Social Forum was born, which includes this mission and updates these recommendations, creating multilateral spaces that have gradually agreed on the basis of the various resolution frameworks on issues such as civil disarmament and the dissolution of ETA. ; the right of all victims to truth, justice and reparation; the resolution of the prisoner issue and the building of an inclusive critical memory,” they stressed.

“Thanks to the perseverance of civil society”

In this Saturday’s statement, the 17 entities and people Individual members of the Social Forum have emphasized that “a lot of progress has been made” over the last decade and that they believe it has been possible “thanks to the perseverance of civil society and because there has been sufficient maturity to build spaces of trust that led to consensus which in turn enabled significant progress in all areas”.

After highlighting the “plurality of the Permanent Social Forum”, they assessed that of the twelve recommendations of the first Social Forum “eleven have been fulfilled or are ready to be fulfilled”. “For the consequences of the cycle of violence that are underway, the resolution frameworks seem already defined. For the others, the foundations have been laid,” they have defended.

For all these reasons, they have announced that in March and coinciding with the tenth anniversary of the I Social Forum, they will close their work stage and for this reason “a sixth and final Social Forum“.

“We made this decision unanimously, based on a rigorous balance and prides of our grain of sand have contributed to leave a better society for the new generations,” they expressed.

“There is a clear risk at this stage, that of the forgetfulness. This risk is fueled by the way in which this issue is dealt with publicly. The tension surrounding the ‘struggle for the story’ causes fatigue in society,’ they say.

After noting that once “all prisoners serve their sentences in the prisons of Zaballa, Basauri, Martutene and Iruñea-Pamplona”, the “settlement framework” will go through “dismantle the whole policy of exceptions“, they have thus referred to laws 7/2014 and 7/2003 of cumulation of sentences and compliance of 40 full years.

They have thus placed “the dismantling of the whole policy of exceptions” among the pending tasks in the management balance sheet and warned that “the question of refugees and deported people remains of the resolution agenda.”
