The Public Prosecution Service for Economic Affairs and Corruption (WKStA) has stopped investigating ex-Finance Minister Gernot Blümel (ÖVP) for abuse of office. He had been accused of deliberately delaying the delivery of files to the Ibiza Commission of Inquiry.
Three project reports had been sent by the WKStA to the instruction board in the Causa and it is now clear that further research “will not be conducted,” the “Kurier” quoted the WKStA as saying.
Wrestling for files, display of the SPÖ
The SPÖ had reported Blümel on suspicion of abuse of office. This was preceded by a months-long battle between the opposition and the Ministry of Finance over the delivery of files, which culminated in execution proceedings in the department ordered by the Federal President. The head of the Finanzprokuratur, Wolfgang Peschorn, who mediated between the department and the U-committee, was also targeted by the WKStA. On Thursday he is an informant in the ÖVP-U committee.
apologies asked
ÖVP Secretary General Laura Sachlehner was happy on Monday on behalf of Blümel and sees “the next party politically motivated ad from the opposition”. This “attempt” by the SPÖ exposes “the perfidious approach of the opposition”. A public apology from SPÖ party chairman Jan Krainer is “in any case indispensable”.
