… and Ludwig laughs – “Häuseln”: SPÖ district head mocks political opponents

Date:

The district chief of Donaustadt, Ernst Nevrivy, caused a scandal at the Vienna Party Congress of the SPÖ on Saturday with a crude choice of words. During the endless debates about the city street (a clear majority of deputies were in favour), he said: “Let’s stand next to the mayor, who is insulted by the Greens and all the other ‘houses’.” Ludwig himself acknowledged the saying with a smile, as a video clip proves. But not everyone at the party conference found the statement successful. Nevrivy has been heavily attacked on social media for his choice of words.

“Sager is horrible enough as it is”
“The sage is terrible enough, the reaction is shocking,” tweeted Heidi Folge (Greens) of the Vienna city councilor. Many immediately demanded an apology from Nevrivy. But Ludwig also received a lot of criticism for his evil laugh. Another Twitter user put it in a nutshell: “Rhetoric is getting deeper and deeper in politics – insanely ‘great’ role model for society!”

Dissatisfaction with road construction projects
The controversial road construction projects in Vienna were openly discussed at the SPÖ party conference. The district organization Alsergrund and the Young Generation spoke out in favor of “future perspective instead of tunnel vision” via an application. According to the petitioners, the “unsustainable and non-social” projects should not be implemented, it is said.

“No concrete on Wiener Weg”
In the intensive discussion, opponents of the red project argued that other federal states would build roads – but Vienna does not necessarily have to go along with this. They had also followed their own path in the corona pandemic, it was pointed out. A poster campaign (“No concrete on Wiener Weg”) asked for the project to be stopped.

Transport councilor Ulli Sima says that in Vienna three times as much money is spent on public transport as on roads. However, the latter are necessary for the transit exemption. In the end, the application against the construction project was rejected by a clear majority.

Opponents of the project took to the streets again
There was also a demonstration on the subject on Saturday. The initiative “Lobau Remains” organized a rally together with many other groups. However, the demo was not allowed to go to the fair. This was already banned in advance. The police presence in the vicinity of the event location was correspondingly large.
