CPR failed – Lower Austria: Climber (69) killed in tour accident

Date:

A 69-year-old died on Saturday while climbing in Lower Austria. Around noon, he and a 58-year-old friend climbed the “Hahnenkamm” route in the Peilstein climbing area in the Baden district in the “Kleiner Zinnenkessel” area. They climbed the ridge to the fuse of the “solar eclipse” route and secured themselves.

As a result, during the intended descent, the 69-year-old fell uncontrollably to the bottom of the small tilted basin about 50 feet (15 meters) due to a technical climbing problem through no fault of his own, sustaining serious injuries.

Despite immediate CPR by witnesses, mountain rescuers and mountaineers, the alarmed emergency physician from the C3 emergency medical helicopter was only able to determine death.
