Teichtmeister case – government agrees: tougher penalties for child pornography

Date:

The Teichtmeister case brings dynamism to politics: the turquoise-green federal government agrees on a minimum sentence of five years for possession of child pornography. Concrete details will be presented shortly.

According to the authorities, Florian Teichtmeister has collected 58,000 pieces of child pornography on his data carriers. That can save him up to two years. As a known innocent, he was able to get away with it without jail time. His life as an actor has been ruined for the 43-year-old. Of course, that is nothing compared to the thousands of ruined lives of abused children.

Role model Germany
Family Affairs Minister Susanne Raab (ÖVP) is emotional on the subject and wants to implement the German model – as she demanded on krone.tv. “In Germany, the minimum sentence for possession is five years. When spreading up to ten years. We only have two or three.”

The coalition partner goes along. Justice Minister Alma Zadić sees heavier sentences such as Raab as an important aspect. The other should be ‘prevention’ so it doesn’t get to that point.

Chancellor Karl Nehammer and his Vice-Chancellor Werner Kogler see it this way. He says, “We have a responsibility to put a clear end to these cruel acts.”

This includes more resources for researchers. There are currently only six officers on staff for child pornography cybercrime.
