No end in sight – almost as Adriatic: all the sweat of Austria

Date:

Europe moans under the oppressive heat of recent days. In Austria, too, the temperatures beyond 30 degrees are disturbed by many people. In Klagenfurt, even the longest June Heat Wave was recorded on Monday since the start of the measurement.

“In Klagenfurt in Carinthia, the longest June Heat Wave has been registered since the start of the measurement. The longest series for all months is currently in the Carinthian capital on eleven heat days (until July 19, 2024) and is being surpassed this week,” said the Storm Center on X (see mail below).

Also in Ferlach the heat wave has been going on for a few days, June 2025 will be the third heat in the sixth month in the history books.

In the night of Tuesday, it should at least cool down by three to six degrees in the night. But an end to the heat wave is not in sight for the time being. On the contrary: in the Adriatic way it is only a few degrees warmer than with us, the temperatures of approximately 34 degrees are expected.

Heat warning from Wednesday
35 degrees are expected in Vienna on Thursday 32 degrees in Bregenz and 33 degrees in the city of Salzburg. Experts from the Geosphere Austria Weerservice gave a heat alert for countless districts in Lower Austria from Wednesday. A little rain and light cooling can come to us at the start of the weekend.

38 degrees on Thursday
According to the prediction, Thursday is really sweaty, especially in the east. The first powerful spring clouds, on the other hand, grow up from the mountains in the west of the mountains, the first shower and storm cells can be created, especially in Vorarlberg, Tyrol and Salzburg.

Heat record is twelve years old
And yet: no new plate temperatures are expected. The previous maximum value at 40.5 degrees Celsius was measured on 8 August 2013 in Bad Deutsch-Altenburg in Lower Austria. This is followed by Neusiedl am See (Burgenland) with officially confirmed 40.3 degrees on the same day. Dellach (Carinthia) takes third place with 39.9 degrees, measured on 3 August 2013.

Heat -days rise
The number of hot days has doubled in recent decades and even tripled in some regions.

Tips for more good ones
In addition to precautions such as sufficient liquid intake, light food, airy clothing, avoiding difficult work or physical activity outdoors, the residence in the shade is also recommended, especially during lunch.
