After many weeks of campaigning, today is the day. Lower Austria elects a new state parliament. With the live ticker of the “Krone” you are always up to date throughout the day.
The most important things at a glance:
-
Although the favorite roles are clearly divided, everything remains open. As reported, every percentage point could decide whether the ÖVP will continue to rule in the black heart. The decisive factor is whether the ÖVP succeeds in retaining the majority in the state government. That would be the case from a result of 41 percent. Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner would remain firmly in the saddle and could start looking for a partner from Monday. One thing is certain: the stakes are high for the ÖVP.
- Election night at the SPÖ is going to be exciting. According to the latest polls, party leader Franz Schnabl threatens to be overtaken by FPÖ candidate Udo Landbauer on the right. If there is a minus before the result, he is counted as the leader of the state party. “Salzburg Krone” boss Claus Pandí also expects that Schnabl’s expected poor performance will also lead to a debate over the chairman of the federal party.
- By all forecasts, the FPÖ will achieve its historically best result. In the previous year, Udo Landbauer claimed the office of governor. However, this is only realistically possible if he overtakes the SPÖ and the ÖVP loses the majority in the state government. In the “Krone” the NEOS ruled out wanting to do common things with farm peasants.
- Turnout in the first two state elections in 1945 and 1949 was more than 96 percent Values that could only be dreamed of in the 2018 election: with 66.6 percent of the vote, turnout had reached an all-time low. Similar phenomena were also evident in the municipal elections in Krems, held last September, where only 57.35 percent actually exercised their right to vote. Without exception, all parties today hope for a break in the trend.
- The politically so often referred to coexistence in Lower Austria has been a thing of the past since the start of the election campaign at the latest. But what was before that? How many joint resolutions were there really in the state parliament? What was the Drasenhofen case really about and what happened to the Waldviertel Autobahn? We have summarized the answers to all these questions and the most important political events of this legislature before the elections for you – here.
