The last generation does not rest: the activists have shown us that often enough in recent months. After the last week of protests in Styria and other actions on Monday and Tuesday, protesters sprayed the chancellery in Vienna with fake oil on Wednesday evening. The reason for this should be the large car top.
“Our chancellor is playing tricks with ego fuels,” Florian Wagner, spokesman for the last generation, said angrily on Twitter. According to the activist, Chancellor Karl Nehammer is not concerned with fighting the climate crisis.
Chancellery smeared with fake oil
Together with other activists, Wagner gathered in front of the Chancellery in Vienna, together they sprayed the facade of the building with an oily black liquid – according to their own statements it was a mixture of water, guar gum and paint that was washable and non-toxic.
Environmental protection organizations are fiercely critical
Because the car summit initiated by Nehammer has not only led to fierce criticism from politicians, but also from activists of the last generation. The Chancellor wants to stick to combustion engines in the form of e-fuels. As expected, the environmental protection organizations Global 2000 and Greenpeace and Fridays for Future Austria criticized the car summit.
Nehammer has been very involved with the subject of e-fuels lately and has received a lot of criticism. According to many experts, the use of synthetic fuels is not energy efficient compared to electric cars. “Today’s event in particular should show that we are intensively engaged in science,” the Chancellor stressed on Wednesday.
The Viennese police were also involved in the action in front of the chancellor’s building.
