Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen will meet his Slovak counterpart Zuzana Čaputová and Prime Minister Eduard Heger in Bratislava on Tuesday. According to the president’s office, the talks will focus on bilateral issues, but also on topics such as climate change and the current situation regarding the Russian offensive war in Ukraine.
The meetings also take place in the run-up to the EU-Ukraine summit, scheduled for Friday in the Ukrainian capital Kiev. At this meeting, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Council President Charles Michel will meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Selenskyj had recently pushed vehemently for further deliveries of Western arms and armaments.
Second visit in a few weeks
Van der Bellen was only in Bratislava around the turn of the year. At the invitation of Čaputová, he took part in the ceremony marking the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Slovak Republic.
