Bang: Even before the Commission’s final report on the “System St. Pölten”, Robert Ziegler resigned his position as ORF regional director in Lower Austria. In an interview with the “Krone” he is self-critical and disappointed.
Since January, an internal subcommittee has been investigating the sensitive allegations of abuse of power against director Robert Ziegler. It is about possible interventions or a “System St. Pölten” in favor of the ruling ÖVP. Chats and protocols had weighed heavily on the father of eight.
Ziegler is now on vacation
Now the bang: Before ORF General Roland Weißmann receives the auditor’s final report on Monday, the head of the state studio in Lower Austria himself takes the consequences and resigns! In the interview with “Krone” Ziegler confirms: “The bond of trust has been broken. For the benefit of the ORF and in particular the team in Lower Austria, I have decided to make my position available. The step is very difficult for me.” He’s going on vacation now.
Ziegler calculates
Ziegler is disappointed and self-critical, but also uses his withdrawal to settle scores: “It hurt me most of all how the allegations were made public – anonymously in several newspapers. Trust had been broken here and of course information had been gathered for years to be used against me to use when the time comes.”
Now the difficult search for a successor for managing director Weißmann begins. According to her own statements, the old and probably new state governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner (ÖVP) is not insisting on her right to be heard.
