Elkarrekin Podemos-IU has reached an agreement with the parties that make up the Basque government, PNV and PSE-EEto pass the law of historical memory, an agreement that “opens the way to better and fairer historical memory” according to Purple Coalition lawmaker Miren Gorrotxategi.
Gorrotxategi announced the details of the agreement on Wednesday, stressing that while “not everything that was desired has been achieved”, many important things have been achieved, such as the recognition of “the Comprehensive reparations for the victims of fascism” or the “need to quantify who and how many were affected by fascism in Euskadi, not just the dead”.
Likewise, according to the parliamentarian, the agreement includes “the imprint of international law, in particular that reference to the non-prescription of these crimes” and also, she emphasizes, “that the violence suffered by women under the Franco regime and the dictatorship ” .
Gorrotxategi has emphasized that his coalition is characterized “by taking a firm but propositional and constructive stance”. For example, he emphasized that if they believe that their negotiating work “leads to the improvement of the laws, looking at the social majority, we try to reach important agreements”.
The member of the purple coalition believes that they have an agreement with this managed to improve the bill submitted by the government, thanking all negotiating teams for their work.
