Diplomat Victoria Kennedy served as US ambassador to Austria for just over a month when Vladimir Putin’s army launched a wide-ranging assault on Ukraine. On the first anniversary of this “unprovoked attack”, she spoke to the “Krone” about Russia, Ukraine and China.
„Crown“: Madam Ambassador, a year ago Russia attacked Ukraine on a broad front. How do you look back on the past year?
Victoria Kennedy: It is hard to believe that it has been a year since Russia unjustly and unprovokedly launched a full-scale mass invasion of Ukraine to violate its sovereignty. What we have seen since then is remarkable courage, determination and resilience on the part of the Ukrainian people and military. And we have seen the solidarity of the free world. Europe stands together in unprecedented sanctions, the US and Europe together, the G7 countries and beyond, the powerful voices in the UN General Assembly. A remarkable message from the free world against this brutal invasion.
