Regarding the last sentence regarding the profiles of Basques in the Uliazpi foundation, the PNV spokesman in Congress believes that some are changing the jurisprudence, against the opinion of the majority of the Basque society and “the possibility to guarantee our identity” break.
Euskaraz irakurri: Aitor Esteban: “Beaumontena oso larria da, baina ez nau harritzen”
The espionage by the Spanish government of Mariano Rajoy on the former minister of the interior of the government of Navarra, Mari Jose Beaumont, has been “very serious”, said the PNV deputy and jeltzale spokesman in the Congress of Deputies, Aitor Esteban. However, he said don’t “miss him” before these practices since, “for some they are justified because the targets are suspicious, because they are not Spanish ‘the pro'”.
A day after Beaumont’s wiretaps were made public, Esteban recalled in an interview with the Euskadi Irratia program “Faktoria” that Congress in September called for the creation of a investigative committee about the so-called “patriot police”, which has not yet been established. “This week we asked about it and we didn’t get an answer. Why wasn’t it drafted?” he asked.
On the other hand, and questioned by the ruling of the TSJPV on the profiles of Basque at the Uliazpi Foundation, Esteban has specified that while this is “perhaps the most serious”, it is not the only thing that has occurred in recent years (among other things, he mentioned the one that refers to the language profiles of the municipal police, or that statement from a court in Vitoria which argued that “Basque was difficult”). “The most surprising thing is that the law of the Basque language has not changed, what has changed is the jurisprudence (…) It seems that some judges disagree with the majority of Basque society,” he assured .
According to Esteban, there is a “deliberate intent” behind this case to break self-government. “This breaks the ability to guarantee our identity,” he added.
