Governor Peter Kaiser managed to collect by far the most preference votes of all candidates on Sunday. The incumbent governor received exactly 18,735 mentions.
In second place is ÖVP top candidate Martin Gruber, whose name was ticked exactly 8734 times in his constituency 2. He is still ahead of the FPÖ top candidate, who is second in party strength, Erwin Angerer received 7330 preferential votes. There were no major surprises in the distribution of the preference votes. Of the top candidates of the other parties, Gerhard Köfer (Team Carinthia) received 4104, Olga Voglauer (Greens) 1788 and Janos Juvan (NEOS) 1462 preferential votes.
As for the current members of the government, SPÖ deputy governors Beate Prettner 3257 and Gaby Schaunig 3648 preference votes, State Councilor Daniel Fellner (SPÖ) was 3695, State Councilor Sara Schaar (SPÖ) 1710 and State Councilor Sebastian Schuschnig (ÖVP) 3127 ticks.
97 preference votes for “file dead”
A curious side note: Gerhard Altziebler, the top candidate of the small BFK party, who had thrown in the towel before the election but was still on the ballot due to the deadline, received no less than 97 preferential votes.
