Rendi-Wagner in ZiB 2 – resignation in case of defeat in the internal power struggle

Date:

A day after the decision that the internal SPÖ power struggle would be decided by a member poll, the election campaign started. SPÖ party leader Pamela Rendi-Wagner answered questions from “ZiB 2” on Thursday evening. The governor of Burgenland, Hans Peter Doskozil, had previously spoken in the program “Burgenland today”.

In terms of content, Rendi-Wagner sees only one serious difference between him and Doskozil. “The FPÖ is not a coalition partner for me. Doskozil only rules out a coalition with the Kickl-FPÖ. The real “enemy is the FPÖ”, Rendi-Wagner said on Thursday evening. You have to resist this “ideology”, but you can’t if you want to “imitate the policies of the FPÖ”.

Welcomes Doskozil’s demand for a minimum wage
Rendi-Wagner also welcomes the minimum wage, which Doskozil repeatedly demands. However, the governor of Burgland wants to establish this minimum wage in law. The SPÖ boss is not convinced of that. She thinks it is strategically better for the unions to negotiate this minimum wage with employers. “Because then he is better protected. A law can be amended in the next legislature”.

A civil-law notary will be deployed for the operational implementation of the member election. Next week there will be another meeting of the party board, where the text of the member survey will be adopted.

In the event of a defeat, Rendi-Wagner wants to leave politics
Should Rendi-Wagner lose the election, she announced in the ORF interview that she would “leave politics”. In other words, she will step down as SPÖ leader.

In turn, Doskozil announced that if he became head of the SPÖ, he would like to remain governor. “This double burden would be compatible for me,” explained. Only for the National Council election campaign would he step down as governor and concentrate fully on the election campaign.
