Climate activists demonstrated loudly against the black-blue alliance in Lower Austria on Wednesday evening. Slogans such as “Up for climate protection, down with the right wing” or “Nazis out of the mansion” could be heard. There were rows of boos for the pact between the People’s Party and the Freedom Party. About 300 people were in attendance, police said.
“No to climate gau with black and blue and yes to climate protection and human rights”, was the motto on the St. Pölten Rathausplatz from 5 p.m. “Friday’s For Future” (FF) was responsible as organizer.
Groenen spokeswoman among the participants
Green Party spokeswoman Helga Krismer also mingled with the audience. Many participants brought plates. For example, it said: “Whoever goes to bed with the FPÖ wakes up in the mud”.
‘Hope the coalition is short-lived’
In several speeches, the black and blue pact was generally described as “looking back”, and it was often argued that there was a “denial of reality”. The “hope that the coalition will be short-lived” was also expressed. The following was chanted loudly: “We are here, there are many of us, stick to the climate goals” and “Climate escape is not a crime”.
From the point of view of the executive branch, the meeting took place without any particular incidents, as reported by the Directorate of the State Police of Lower Austria.
In the run-up to the event, FFF described the working agreement in a broadcast as “a joke about climate policy”. Terms such as climate neutrality, greenhouse gases or climate goals are not even mentioned in the program, it said.
The constituent session of the state parliament will take place on Thursday
Also on Thursday, the day of the constituent session of the state parliament, there will be a rally in St. Pölten against the pact between the ÖVP and the FPÖ. The social campaign organization #aufstehn will protest against justice in front of the country house from 08.00 am together with SOS fellow human beings and the grandmothers. “No coalition with racists” is the demand. The first session of the state parliament of the new legislature will take place from 10.00 am.
