SP member survey – runoff for Babler “a matter of respect”

Date:

The mayor of Traiskirchner, Andreas Babler (SPÖ), does not want to rule out the possibility of a second round after the SPÖ member survey. If one of the candidates does not have an absolute majority, it is rather a “matter of respect” for the party members.

The supreme sovereign is the members, you have to “think consistently to the end”, Babler said: “If there are not five in the front, I would prepare for the second round,” he said in an Ö1 “plain text” discussion on Wednesday night.

The SPÖ had set the tone for its membership inquiry into the party presidency in a board on Monday. A second round is not planned. The favourites, incumbent chairman Pamela Rendi-Wagner and Burgenland governor Hans Peter Doskosil, stated that they wanted to respect the results of the poll and would not stand for election at the special party conference if they did not come first . Babeler, however, did not want to make this decision on Wednesday.

Criticism of the formal specifications of the study
Instead, Babler again criticized the formal requirements of the member survey, saying that what was being produced here was a “Punch and Punch show”. The process certainly does not inspire great confidence, but he must accept the terms.

In any case, he is happy with the membership movement and tries to take it seriously, says Babler: “Now a window has opened and you have to take advantage of it,” said the mayor of Traiskirchner.
