Green frontwoman Martina Berthold speaks in the ‘Krone’ interview about wind turbines, inflation and intentions to split Vienna. The Salzburg resident also comments on Heinrich Schellhorn’s topics and the goals of the election campaign. Part four of the interview series.
“crown”: Mrs Berthold, the Greens have been part of the Salzburg state government for ten years. Tempo 80 on the highway is gone, wind turbines are missing. What remains of the government participation?
Martin Berthold: The wind power brakes have been released and the necessary signature for the Lehmberg wind energy project has been obtained. The wind has turned. It has reached the people and also the political decision-makers that we need to expand renewable energy, and at full speed. We have now doubled the number of installations in the field of photovoltaic cells. So we went from 7,000 to 16,000. We have made a big decision for the Stegenwald hydroelectric plant and have made such progress with wind energy that Windsfeld is about to submit the EIA and the next steps are being taken in Lehmberg. Eleven priority zones have been defined and intensive wind measurements are being made. It’s not just lip service. The people know it is necessary. We have to come out of the fossils. We have treasures in our state. We have Salzburg AG, which is underway building a second biomass cogeneration plant in Siezenheim.
