The executive has given in to the PP to try to gain support for the measures after the usual parliamentary majority was broken over the spy case.
Spain’s government has agreed to incorporate as a bill the decree containing measures to mitigate the economic and social impact of the war in Ukraine, which will be debated in Congress this Thursday, as requested by the PP.
This decision will allow the parliamentary groups to present contributions and will make it easier for the government to obtain the necessary support for the validation of the decree.
The decision includes measures in place since April 1, which include direct support, such as the fuel bonus. Congress was due to vote on the ratification of this decree on Thursday. However, the case of espionage against pro-independence politicians has broken Pedro Sánchez’s usual parliamentary majority, jeopardizing the House’s approval of the measures.
In that sense, long-standing partners such as ERC had warned that they could vote against if responsibilities are not taken in the Pegasus case. And in this context, the PP showed its willingness to facilitate the validation of the decree. Of course with one condition: that it is processed as a bill in order to be able to submit changes and thus include tax reductions, among other things. Finally, Sánchez’s government relented.
