Summons before inquiry committee – Zadic interrogation: Next round in the legal dispute

Date:

Numerous cases occupy the Austrian judiciary. The cooperation between the investigative authorities is difficult. Their dispute will go into the next round on Wednesday.

Whether it’s an Ibiza, casino or survey affair – cooperation between the investigative services has been anything but smooth for a long time. Time and again, their disputes are also kept public – and these are to be continued in the ÖVP U committee on Wednesday.

The first person to provide information is Minister of Justice Alma Zadic (Greens). After her comes Ilse-Maria Vrabl-Sanda, head of the Public Prosecution Service for Economic Affairs and Corruption (WKStA), another prominent source of information. Both will be asked about the latest developments in the judiciary. On the one hand, of course, about the tensions between the authorities, on the other, the MPs will also be interested in the state of affairs in one or the other case.

Vrabl-Sanda has recently taken particularly bold measures against the officials with whom she is at odds. For example, she had withdrawn the search warrant from “Soko Tape”, which was set up to clear up the Ibiza affair, because the investigation process had been “systematically torpedoed”. Franz Ruf, director general for public safety, vehemently rejected this story at the time.

A few days later, the head of the WKStA even called for the legal protection officer Gabriele Aicher to be barred from all investigations into the Ibiza affair – because of bias.

Finally, ex-Minister of Justice Wolfgang Brandstetter (ÖVP) and ex-Minister of the Interior Eckart Ratz will be invited on Thursday. Brandstetter is being investigated on suspicion of violation of official secrecy. He is said to have incited the suspended section head Christian Pilnacek to reveal a house search, which he denies.
