Schwechat follows suit – politicians take a stand against the rental horror

Date:

Payments for apartments are currently almost unaffordable for the socially disadvantaged. Several municipalities in Niederösterreich are already actively countering this.

While the parties across the country and across the country continue to discuss how to deal with the exorbitantly increased rents, more and more municipalities rely on their own initiative: after St. Pölten, Vösensdorf, Brunn am Berge and a few other municipalities, the municipal municipality Schwechat found a solution in the battle against the sky-high costs in the Bruck an der Leitha district.

Due to an urgent motion by the SPÖ, the city council has unanimously decided to suspend the rent increase for municipal apartments. In Schwechat, this is the second (!) time that this measure has been taken to relieve people of the enormous price increases.

Mayor Karin Baier also sees a need for the federal government: “The federal government should soon decide and publish the guidelines and effectiveness of the rent subsidy so that we can assess whether this model even comes close to the people who receive this aid. really need. .”
