Presents reform plan – Korosec on healthcare: ‘We now have to set the course’

Date:

The healthcare system has been faltering for a long time, now the chairman of the senior council, Ingrid Korosec, is also sounding the alarm. She criticizes the confusion of jurisdiction between the federal and state governments.

The system hits the wall. Unfortunately, when Senior Council Chairman Ingrid Korosec utters this sentence, it is full of substance. 80 percent of care is done at home. “That will no longer be possible in the future because the next of kin will then be missing,” says Korosec.

Home care is eight times as expensive. There is not enough staff. “And so many multitracks in terms of financing and structures. Also through federalism.” Another point: prevention. While eight percent of people over the age of 65 need care in Denmark, the figure is 22 percent in Germany.

The 82-year-old Korosec has high expectations of Minister Johannes Rauch (Greens). “He wants to change the system. Even if it becomes difficult with so many interests.”

She presents a plan with the following points:

  • Experienced contacts in every state
  • Financing from a single source
  • Personally offensive
  • expansion of the offer
  • Double the funding for 24-hour care
  • digitization

There is no appropriate data management in Austria. Ingrid Korosec: “We now have to set the course.”
