The Lehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu, presented this Wednesday the proposal ‘Now, 2030’, a document that he will send to the United Nations (UN) and the European Union, with the aim of contributing to compliance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) ahead of the “insufficient” progress in this area. Among other things, the proposal proposes to promote the role of “non-state” governments throughout this process.
Urkullu presented this document at a meeting held this Wednesday in Miñano (Álava) by the ‘Euskadi 2030 Agenda Forum’, which brings together institutions and universities, as well as representatives of civil society and other public and private actors.
The ‘Now, 2030’ proposal, presented to this forum by the lehendakari, will be presented to the United Nations in the context of the SDG Summit, scheduled for September 2023, as well as to the EU institutions and other networks and institutions of international organizations involved in promoting the Sustainable Development Goals.
One of the objectives of this proposal is to “gradually and continuously” improve the balance with regard to “what can be expected at this point” of the “Agenda 2030” objectives.
In addition, on the occasion of the SDG summit scheduled at the United Nations for September 2023, the need to “raise the bar” about the institutions that signed the ‘Agenda 2030’ in 2015.
At the same time, it is committed to promoting institutional and international recognition, based on a critical and self-critical analysisof “insufficient development and adherence to the SDGs”.
Through this proposal, it is also a matter of contributing to excitement “a global and local response” to promote the development and achievement of the SDGs up to 2030.
On the other hand, the document underlines the ease of “promoting the role of local, regional and non-state governments in the localization of the SDGs and their participation in better global co-governance of the ‘Agenda 2030′”.
