About Maroni with… – Drexler: No to Donald Trump, yes to Ronald Reagan

Date:

Christopher Drexler, governor of the state and ÖVP’s top candidate for the state elections on November 24, speaks in the “Krone” interview about American politics, the leading hospital and cooperation with the SPÖ.

He is the one who must defend his office: Christopher Drexler, governor of Styria for two and a half years, has been going from one appointment to another for months to mobilize against the negative national trend and maintain first place for the People’s Party . Party. There is usually hardly any time to eat chestnuts, but they taste even better now.

“Kron”: Mr. Drexler, you are the State Councilor for Culture. When was the last time you were in the theater?
Christopher Drexler: My last time in the theater was the Jelinek play “Sonne/Air”.

In Styria there is a gender pay gap of 18.5 percent. Is it a priority for you to close them?
That must be a priority. The gap is mainly due to different part-time habits. I would like us to go to a Styria where this gap is closed.

If you were an American, who would you have voted for: Donald Trump or Kamala Harris?
Anyway, Kamala Harris.

Would you form a coalition with Mario Kunasek and his FPÖ if the election results allow it?
My preference is to cooperate with my government partner, with whom we have a relationship of trust, namely with Anton Lang and the Styrian Social Democrats. My goal is to cross the finish line first and continue this collaboration.

What happens if you don’t cross the finish line first?
I now concentrate on this goal and have no room for other considerations.

The main hospital in Liezen is expected to cost 335 million euros. Will you continue with the project despite the criticism?
I think this is one of the wisest decisions. We want to improve healthcare in the Liezen district. We are the only federal state that is building a modern, large and efficient hospital. In ten years we will no longer be asking ourselves this question.

If you could have a beef with any politician, dead or alive, who would it be?
Ronald Reagan.
