Health Advisory 1450 celebrates its sixth anniversary on World Health Day (April 7). The most common concerns are currently questions about Covid-19, abdominal pain, vomiting and dizziness. The reporting center is also contacted about the opening hours of doctors and pharmacies.
At the height of the corona pandemic in 2021, an average of almost 21,000 calls per day were received. That is now about 3100 a day. The joint federal, state, and social security hotline is intended to serve as a guide to health issues and to relieve the burden on outpatient and inpatient services.
Austria is also taking many other measures to ensure high-quality care, Health Minister Johannes Rauch (Greens) said on Friday. As examples, he cites extra primary care facilities, expansion of mental health care, prevention and precautionary measures and the ‘Healthy out of the crisis’ project, aimed at children and young people.
Medication shortage and planlessness
The FPÖ is not satisfied with the measures taken so far. Rauch’s starting points are “chaos, planlessness and no insight”, criticized FPÖ health spokesperson Gerhard Kaniak. For example, the health care of children and young people is not sufficient, while they have enormous psychological problems due to “the nonsensical pandemic regulations”. The pandemic would have dramatically shown that Austria’s health system had to be prepared for the future. It must be more sustainable, fairer and also better for people in healthcare professions.
In addition, Kaniak criticized the shortage of medicines: “There is a huge shortage of medicines, which was foreseeable for a long time, but this federal government is still not interested in that.” World Health Day on Friday. He announced that preventive and precautionary measures are being expanded.
