No “broad country” – what do our parties think about cannabis & co.?

Date:

The legalization of cannabis in Germany has also led to discussions about the decriminalization of soft drugs in our country. Marijuana & co. are, after all, the most seized addictive substances in Lower Austria. Who is against – and who is for under what conditions.

A hard no comes from the ÖVP: “We need this debate as urgently as a stone on the skull,” said club president Jochen Danninger. He is committed to the “uncompromising fight” against drugs and wants to “do everything possible to protect our children and young people from drugs as best as possible”. That means warning urgently about the dangers of cannabis to health and not downplaying the use of this drug. Danninger: “For us, the legalization of cannabis is an absolute no-go.”

Clear words from the FPÖ
As expected, the FPÖ is also on the side of “Law & Order”. Plans for decriminalization are called “left-wing petty politics and socio-romantic daydreams” and warn against cannabis as a gateway drug: “The inhibition threshold drops and the use of harder and dangerous drugs is often the result. In addition, consumption causes damage to health that cannot be underestimated. ”

SPÖ says “No” – in a roundabout
For an answer from the SPÖ, you have to read between the lines: “This topic is not on our agenda,” state manager Wolfgang Zwander says of the federal law. There, however, the Reds did not even want to talk about legalization.

Opposition says: “Yes, but . . .”
The answer of the Greens is surprising to many: unlike the party youth, they are against legalization. “Decriminalization as in Germany would be conceivable if more financial resources were made available for addiction prevention,” explains health spokeswoman Silvia Moser.

The Neos take a looser view: it is high time to decriminalize the possession of cannabis. State Chairman Indra Collini: “Sales to adults through a licensed system such as pharmacies can contribute to the strict protection of minors, curb the black market and create new taxes for the state.”
